Off RDC, THANKS KANDY!!!!!!!
Stop New Million-Acre Federal Land Grab
Dear Colleague:
Congressional leaders say they will ram through an omnibus public lands package after the elections in a "lame duck" Congress. The Roundtable is rallying Westerners to oppose this huge federal land grab. Take action here right now: http://www.westernroundtable.net/mai...g_linkid=38415 !
This bill, H.R. 5151, includes more than 150 bills that would: create/expand a number of wilderness areas; establish new conservation areas; create/ add to wild and scenic designations; designate new national scenic trails; add new national and historic park units and nearly a dozen new national heritage areas.
In total, this package would create more than a million acres of wilderness, restrict the development of energy resources on various federal lands, and place hundreds of thousands of acres under new or enhanced federal control and further restrict many forms of use and access to public lands.
Not only that, but this bill would lock in, by statute, the Clinton Administration-inspired "National Landscape Conservation System" (NLCS) within the BLM. The bill would give federal land managers the ability to alter the long-standing multiple use management philosophy of the BLM by elevating the purposes to “conserve, protect, restore” above other purposes for NLCS units. This could mean agriculture, energy exploration and production and other economic uses could become imperiled on huge swathes of Western public lands. See a state-by-state analysis of federal lands impacted by NLCS here: http://www.westernroundtable.net/mai...g_linkid=38416
Please take 60 seconds and send a pre-drafted communication to your elected official here: http://www.westernroundtable.net/mai...g_linkid=38415
Thank you for helping to stop this very bad legislation.

I have been shooting pictures for the Orange County Down Syndrome Association Orange County for over five years. This year I asked Art Savedra and the Ingold Racing team to bring their race car so the kids could get to sit in a real race cars during the Buddy Walk events at Angel Stadium. The buddy walk is the main fund raising event for the OCDSA which provides programs and services for the community. But it really is more a celebration of life and family. The kids get to do a lot of fun things as well as run the bases at a real big league ballpark. I would like to thank the All Race Tech & Safety team and the Ingold Racing Team and their extended families for their support. Tomorrow, class 10 car driver Terrie Tavis and I will be photographing the event for the OCDSA. After Sunday, I will post some of my photos at http://www.racephotodude.smugmug.com/.

The Department of the Navy announces its intent to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to study alternatives for meeting Marine Corps Marine Expeditionary Brigade (MEB) sustained, combined arms, live-fire and maneuver training requirements. The proposed action is to request the withdrawal of federal public lands, acquire state and privately owned lands, and to seek the establishment of Special Use Airspace with the effect of expanding the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center (MCAGCC), Twentynine Palms, California.

16" Steel Wheels for Class 9
I would like to get some 16 inch steel wheels made for my class 9 car and run them with trailer tires, in similar fashion to the 1/2 1600 cars. The tires would still fit inside the rule for the tires size being less than 32 inches tall with 18lbs of pressure in them, the only difference would be the bigger steel wheel inside the tire.
I've asked Jim's permission, and he would like to hear what the other racers think about it. Here are a few reasons why I would like to do it...
1. I can run the same wheel on all 4 corners, limiting spares.
2. I can run a heavy ply trailer tire, that will cost a lot less(to buy and in flat tires...hopefully) than the M/T's or Yoks.
3. I can get the wheels made at Custom Commercial for about $105...standard 15" wheels are running about $80, but with the less cost in tires, it should be cheaper overall. (obviously these 16" wheels are not mass produced, so the price would only get cheaper if they were)
4. This would open up a lot more options for tire combinations other than just the M/T's and Yoks.
Let me know what you think.
Thanks,
Team Johnson #954
C.Haney:
Jim,
This should be done through the series that all are conforming too. There are to many classes out there now.If the Johnsons want change they should go to SCORE and ask for it so it is across the board not just in 1 series.MORE has a great turn out for class 9 and it would stink if it was split.DON'T END IT MEND IT.Steve run 16's I'm sure nobody will say much.....just don't poduim
SAVING=not spending. The tires you have work great

I also help most often at road crossings for Jim when I can't race.

Steve Johnson #954:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I talked to Bill Savage today, and he said if there was enough interest he would consider the change/exception, but not just on my asking. So I guess it is up to you guys, and especially the ones that have run SCORE, I would think, could have a stronger say. I've never run SCORE, and couldn't even if I wanted, because my car is not tagged.
My plan to get the wheels made is to use 16" spare (donut type) wheels. Custom and commercial is going to cut the center out and add a 5 lug VW, making a 16X4 steel wheel. I'm not sure what the weight will be, but I'm hoping that it will be comparable to the 15X5 (don't know the exact offset yet either). I think with the right trailer tire, you could hopefully save a few pounds over the M/T's or Yoks.
Cost = (donut tires junk yard) $15 + $90 (C&C) = $105 each
The advantages that I see:
1. About the same cost to buy
2. Cost could be cheaper overall due to less cost of trailer tires
3. Can run same tire on all 4 corners, reducing different spares needed.
4. Will allow you to keep ride height in rear and increase in front
5. Will allow more tire combinations, which would be a huge asset to anyone running SCORE.
6. Hopefully the wheel tire combination will reduce weight on rear, helping with unsprung rotating mass, reducing tranny stress.
7. The rear tires could have less bite, also reducing tranny stress.
8. Tires should be stronger, especially side wall
9. ...could look cool too.
Let me know if your interested.
|
BUD WARD:
I get my tires from my dads 1600 car and since they are going to switch to 16" wheels I am not against the idea, Yokohamas are not getting any cheaper and although I love the Baja pros for the front of my car I am not a fan of them on the rear.

Art "The TECH DUDE":
Hi everyone, Class 9 rules and the Class rules may be changed if you all petition this correctly. Mr Savage is right,"if there is enough interest for a change of rules" it could be done.
Johnson #954, just get a petition for this Class and what it is about and what you would like to see changed and present it to the race organization Tech your racing with and SCORE International "Mr Savage" Tech and hope for the best. Presentation is everything.

Jim@MORE:
I must remind everyone M.O.R.E. is for affordable Clean family racing and what is best for the racers on a budget. I will allow anyone to discuss change here, it is your series but the racers that support M.O.R.E. will discide what will be done, And I will have the final say no one else.
One question to Steve what is the advanage of having a 16" wheel over a 15" in this application you are talking about, you could run the 15 inch wheel with a trailer tire and be within the rules.
|
Steve Johnson #954:
Jim,
The tallest trailer tire for a 15" that I have been able to find is less than 30" tall. I've tried running them before and my car drags all over the place. It is amazing what an inch of ground clearance will make. The 16" wheel would allow a trailer tire at 32" tall, and if the rim is comparable to the 15" in weight, you should be able to reduce the rotating, unsprung mass off the rear wheels. One other great thing is it allows you to run the same tire as a spare on the front and back, and with the taller front tire, you would have more ground clearance there too.
|
Steve Johnson #954:
Also another important thing for me is the sidewall strength of the trailer tires...I tend to be too hard on my side walls...M/T's and I do not get along.
|
Art "The TECH DUDE":
Hi guys, about this ruling, I just had a blow out on my trialer. The trailer tires are indeed heavier, but also come in 15 inch....I bought a 10 ply tire brand new for $105. My front tires on a 5/16 lasts a bit longer then that one tire. My records show the trailer tire was about a year old and had many miles on it. The guys at this shop said the price goes up when you start talking 16 inch trailer tires. I also bought 3, 16 inch tires and wheels for the same trailer, thinking I was going to just buy 3 more just like them....$358 each! Thats one tire only! I went back to the 15 inch tire quickly.
I have three brand new 16 inch tires and wheels for sale, where's the savings
